Single Mode Multi Mode OM3 cables

Fibre optics are rapidly replacing copper cables as they are far better at transmitting high rates of data by overcoming the limitation of copper technology that is in comparison inefficient and fraught with many limitations due to its electro magnetic properties.

Optical fibre cables are constructed from a single or a number of optic filaments. A filament  is a circular dielectric wave-guide designed to transport light bursts representing  data to very long distances while avoiding the many limitation of copper wires.

Fibre Optic cables are made of a core of a single or a number of filaments which are coated by a slightly less reflective (by ≈ 1%) layer. Fibre filaments are typically made of silica of various types.  A protective coating of one or two layers of cushioning material (such as acrylate) is used to separate adjacent filaments to eliminate crosstalk between them.  Fibre optics internals as described above  are typically sleeved with a variety of material that form the outer sleeve of fibre optic cables  and making them suitable for in or outdoors use by utilising various types of  polyethylene sheaths that encases the inner layer which houses the fibre filaments . To protect the very thin (Human hair’s width) internal and external lines made from steel or Kevlar strands is also added.

Fibre optics cables are increasingly adopted for use in aerospace, defence, Industrial, Medical, Ophthalmic, Semiconductor, Telecommunications and many other industries.

Single Mode fibre optic cable

Single Mode fibre optic cable has a small core that allows only one type of light transmission to be emitted via its length. Due to this fact, reflections created as the light travels via the fibre filament decreases. The result is a substantial lowering of “light attenuation” that assists the ability for the signal to attain far greater distances. Single Mode fibre optic cables are typically used where long distance. Combined with NueTec OTR10-1000HF the OF-SNF-2.8 cable will be able to transmit 4K signal to up to a 1km away from source (3840x2160, 8bits, REC.709, 4:4:4, 24-30Hz.)

Multi Mode fibre optic cable

Multimode fibre optic cables have a large filament that allows transmission of multiple modes of light bursts to be transmitted via the length of the cables..  The large number of signals concurrently transmitted offers the large quantity of data to be passed between source and display. Multimode models are designed for long distances transmission of up to 300m as the high rates of different light bursts dispersion and attenuation rates limit the accuracy and stability of transmission. Multimode fibre cables are typically used for short distance. Multimode fibre optic cables are used to transmit data and audio/video signals in LANs.
